Location & Getting Around

Where is Middleton Idaho?

Middleton sits along State Highway 44 between Caldwell and Star, about 30 miles west of Boise.

Where it is

Middleton sits in Canyon County, in the heart of the Treasure Valley. Star is just east, Caldwell to the west, and Nampa about 10 miles south. The Boise River runs along the town's south edge, and State Highway 44 runs straight through the middle of town as its main east-west connection. Farmland and irrigation canals surround a compact core of schools, parks, and shops, with the Boise foothills visible to the northeast.

  • Star~6 mi · ~10 min
  • Caldwell~8 mi · ~10 min
  • Nampa~12 mi · ~15 min
  • Meridian~20 mi · ~25 min

Boise is reachable via ID-44, US-20/Chinden, or I-84.

Flying & travel

Boise Airport (BOI) is the closest regional and commercial airport, about a 40-minute drive, with nonstop service to most western hubs and a number of major cities across the country. Rental cars, rideshare, and long-term parking are all on site. For longer trips, connections through Salt Lake City, Denver, Seattle, and Phoenix are the common routes.

Getting around

Middleton sits between Caldwell and Star, roughly 30 miles northwest of Boise in the Treasure Valley. Plenty of residents walk or bike to the schools, parks, the market, and the shops that matter most. Highway 44 is the main east-west route through town, with US-20/Chinden Boulevard a good alternate east toward Meridian and Boise, and side roads connecting to Star and Nampa. Interstate 84, just south of town, also provides direct access to Nampa, Meridian, and Boise. For work, shopping, or appointments in the surrounding cities, a vehicle — or access to one — is necessary.

Neighborhoods & Housing

Finding the right fit

Middleton keeps a small-town feel with a mix of housing types — from rural acreage to newer subdivisions. The right fit depends on how you want your day to feel.

What you'll find

  • Homes with acreage — room for outbuildings, animals, and space between neighbors.
  • Luxury and custom homes — larger builds on premium lots, some with river or foothill views.
  • Value and starter homes — established streets with mature trees near the core and schools.
  • Newer subdivisions — production builds on the edges of town.
  • Apartments and rentals — a set of multifamily and rental options.
  • Land and lots — parcels for building now or later.

Questions worth asking

  • How much space is the right amount? — a low-maintenance lot, room for a garden, or acreage for animals.
  • What does a normal day look like? — walking distance to schools and shops, or a short drive to everything.
  • Is new construction an option? — newer subdivisions on the edges of town offer build-to-suit and inventory homes.
  • How much upkeep feels reasonable? — newer builds ask for less; acreage brings seasonal work.
  • Buying or renting? — owning fits a longer horizon; renting keeps things flexible.
